A visual identity was developed for an iconic building in Hamburg’s skyline, designed by architect Werner Kallmorgen for IBM in 1964. Inspired by the building’s façade and its original occupant, the brand design is based on a historic data storage medium, the punched card. Conceived as a modular design, the shapes of the logo mutate according to the word mark.
The project book draws on the building’s heritage and the visual language of the period, portraying its transition through time. The dynamic design system is applied to the cover, featuring punched holes reminiscent of the data cards.
The work was created with and for Freiland Konzept GmbH and received a special mention at the German Design Awards. The pictures were taken by Valerie Maltseva.
